30 students from the school Jesús de Nazareth in Barranquilla, Colombia were awarded with scholarships from the 2009 academic year. This program is an ongoing effort to encourage academic excellence amongst the disadvantaged youth.
September 2009 - Celebrating "El Dia del Amor y la Amistad"
In September, PAA helped the school Jesús de Nazareth celebrate El Dia del Amor y la Amistad, (literal translation: the day of love and friendship, in other countries known as Valentine's Day) by hosting a Friendship Party. We provided face-painting, entertainment by a clown and a distribution of gifts.
September 2008 - Reading Books to Kindergarten and First Grade Classes
Institución Educativa Distrital Jesús de Nazareth Sede #2 in an elementary school in Barranquilla, Colombia serving children from kindergarten to fifth grade. We donated reading textbooks and various school supplies which are now being used by 120 students.
July 2008 - Shoe Donations to Children in Town of Sabanarlaga
Many of the children of Institución Educativa San José De Aguada De Pablo in Sabanarlarga, Colombia walk up to 2 miles each day barefoot while others resort to taking turns to wear shoes to school. PAA donated 30 pairs to shoes to the children of this town.
June 2008 - School Supplies to ‘Colegio El Mundo De Los Estudiantes’
This school serves children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. Colegio El Mundo De Los Estudiantes received developmental supplies that aid children’s motor skills.
July 2007 - Summer Fundraiser
Family and friends joined to celebrate the summer and July 20th - Colombian Independence Day. We ate, danced laughed and showcased Por Amor A. The event raised over $700.
November 2007 - Donation to Duica Mendoza Family
Ricardo Jose Duica Mendoza from Santa Marta, Colombia died on Friday, November 23, 2007. He was eight years old. Ricardo was playing on the swing set in school and had a deadly fall, where he suffered injuries to his head, spine, and lungs. He was in a coma for two days. Our donations helped alleviate the family of the some financial strain during their emotionally difficult time.
December 2007 - Town of Salgar Christmas Events
The town of Salgar in Colombia holds Christmas events for the children of the area. For three years Por Amor A supported the town’s events by donating clothes, food, toys and funds. Financial contributions are used to cover the cost of snacks during various events and for the Christmas dinner event.
